Skinner doesn't have five more years of elgibility?
Welcome to the ACC Football Mid-Week Hype Machine, check out the game info, matchups, news and other greatness about the week in ACC football below…
- 10/22/09 Florida State Seminoles @ North Carolina Tar Heels / 4LN / 8:00 p.m. ET
Must-See Matchup: Pathetic Heels Offense vs. Pathetic Noles Defense
I’m guessing UNC will use their punter this week, but both teams have had a few extra days to change what’s wrong–now we will see if they are fixable errors.
Bringing The Noise: Butch Davis has done a good job apparently of tricking his players into thinking this FSU resembles the teams of old. HD recaps the Heels season here and the ‘Noles here. The ‘Noles are the walking wounded going into this one.
Watch This Over…: Chivas USA vs. Chicago, because regular season MLS<<<meaningless ACC football.
- 10/24/09 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets @ Virginia Cavaliers / Raycom / 12:00 p.m. ET
Must-See Matchup: GT aggressiveness in tight situations vs. UVA home field opportunitiveness
Virginia has something over GT–GT has a tendency to be over-confident in their offense in key situations(i.e. dumb pitches/passes when having lead and pounding the ball with Nesbitt and Dwyer for big gains).
Bringing The Noise: From the Rumble Seat looks into what the heck Groh is doing. With the simplification process for defense as a success, CPJ continues to try to fix the kicking game. Nate Collins and ‘Hoos D has a quite a test this week. And here’s more FTRS with some stats and stuff. HD wit her assessment of GT’s and UVA’s season so far.
Watch This Over…: Minnesota/Ohio State, the winner of this game has either a lead or tie for lead in the division where as the winner of Gophers/Buckeyes gets to be second or third place in the Big Ten maybe.
- Maryland Terrapins @ Duke Blue Devils / 4LN360.com / 1:30 p.m. ET
Must-See Matchup: The One Man Offense, Thad Lewis vs. the defense with seemingly one man, the Terps
What is thoroughly interesting here is how good did NC State really make Lewis look? A few, not all, questions will be answered about these Blue Devils Saturday.
Bringing The Noise: HD gives the lowdown on the Terps. The Blue Devils are riding high after the bye week. HD on the Devils.
Watch This Over…: Stir of Echoes, Kevin Bacon in a movie about being haunted after a party cannot hold a candle to Duke going for ACC win no. 2.
- Boston College Eagles @ Notre Dame Fighting Irish /NBC / 3:30 p.m. ET
Must-See Matchup: Montel Harris(or Ninja as I’m told by BC Interruption) vs. ND’s D
Montel Harris just went off last week–can he keep it up?
Bringing The Noise: Eagle in Atlanta discusses the future of this rivalry. HD goes with Montel Harris as BC’s MVP of the midseason…I would say Spaz’s stache if it were me.
Watch This Over…: Final Destination 2, TV Guide description: “a sequel to ‘Final Destination’ “…no really? This is actually an intriguing game with how both teams played last week–would be a really good reputation win for the ACC.
- Clemson Tigers @ Miami Hurricanes / ABC-4LN2-Gameplan / 3:30 p.m. ET
Must-See Matchup: Clemson Pass Rush vs. Miami Protection
Clemson has the best defensive line in the ACC–Miami has been keeping Jacory Harris’ jersey pretty clean–something has to give.
Bringing The Noise: Clemson’s foremost concern is good practice before the trip down I-95. Miami looking to keep Harris comfortable before a sack-hungry D. Clemson looking to get the most out of their D to get pressure on Harris. Clemson Raycom blog on this week’s game. C.J. says this is this game will be a Nascar race(what me sleeping while cars go round and round?). Miami safety Randy Phillips delaying surgery to keep playing this season. Might as well continue what I started, HD’s Clemson and Miami report.
Watch This Over…: BC vs. ND, this is a key Atlantic-Coastal matchup–the other is a good OOC game, but not great.
- Wake Forest Demon Deacons @ Navy Midshipmen / CBS College Sports / 3:30 ET
Must-See Matchup: Navy rushing game vs. Wake D
Clemson ran wild on Wake last week–Navy very possibly could do the same.
Bringing the Noise: Wake Forest does indeed finally lose Skinner next season and My Take on Wake is looking to the future. HD is telling ya straight what’s up with Wake.
Watch This Over…: Scooby Doo at Zombie Island, here’s a hint: (they’re not really monsters–just people inside costumes), but Wake/Navy is as real as it gets.
Come on back Thursday for the all the ACC picks!
So what’s your guess B? Clemson v. Miami? Heart says one thing, head and stomach say another. Can the Tigers man up two weeks in a row?
@CUOrange,
My pick will come tomorrow–I’ve been a big fan of Miami all season long, but Clemson has a history with Miami recently that tells you that it will be a close one regardless.
