DeAndre McDaniel and the Tigers poised for the upset.
Welcome to the Thursday ACC Pick’Em Post! Here’s some stats on how we’ve done so far(hide the women and children)…
ACC Pick’Em: 39-19 through 7 weeks straight up picking them. Which isn’t great, but with how unpredictable the ACC has been so far, I’ll take it.
ATS: 25-20 with all the ACC games vs. FBS opponents. Hey, it’s over .500.

ACC Pick’Em
- 10/22/09 Florida State Seminoles @ North Carolina Tar Heels / 4LN / 8:00 p.m. ET
The Lead: According to Tomahawk Nation, UNC’s offense and FSU’s defense are a match made in heaven as FSU’s offense is for UNC’s defense–what this is means is that it will be a 3-2 game.
Watch 4: FSU’s Defense to Make Just Enough Stops
FSU’s defense is bad and Georgia Tech made them look worse. If there is any will left in these ‘Noles, they will not be ran all over with the Heels on the other side of the field. FSU’s offense will be able to score against a good UNC defense.
Pick: ‘Noles 31 Heels 23
- 10/24/09 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets @ Virginia Cavaliers / Raycom / 12:00 p.m. ET
The Lead: Man, what a statement Virginia can make Saturday. Can you imagine the insanity of Grohtoberfest continiung with an upset of the Jackets? Oh, and UVA has won 5 of the last 6 against the Jackets(Groh undefeated over Johnson in October).
Watch 4: Johnson’s Jackets to Be Ready
Remember, I have no idea how to predict Virginia, but I have a pretty good record with the Jackets up to last week–there’s no way that GT is not ready for this one and they should win.
Pick: Jackets 28 ‘Hoos 20
- Maryland Terrapins @ Duke Blue Devils / 4LN360.com / 1:30 p.m. ET
The Lead: Duke is favored in an ACC game–and they should be…the Blue Devils are genuinely the better team and had a bye week to disect Maryland’s D.
Watch 4: Pain.
Thad Lewis is going to be going all Thad Lewis on the Terps–it’s gonna get ugly(seriously).
Pick: Devils 42 Terps 20
- Boston College Eagles @ Notre Dame Fighting Irish /NBC / 3:30 p.m. ET
The Lead: The Eagles travel to South Bend to playing the Fighting Weis’ who they shut out last season in Chestnut Hill.
Watch 4: BC to Keep Rolling
The spread in this game is perplexing with a team that was shutout by Eagles to be 8 point favorites now. BC really has not gotten worse and Notre Dame’s only big improvement is in the passing game. It’s time for BC to get their first road win this season.
Pick: Eagles 24 Irish 20
- Clemson Tigers @ Miami Hurricanes / ABC-4LN2-Gameplan / 3:30 p.m. ET
The Lead: The winner of this game is either in prime position or still top dog for their division–this is the game to watch this weekend.
Watch 4: Jacory Harris Needing to Scramble Which Could Expose Him
Now, with expose, I don’t mean as a fraud, but it will leave him open to big hits because Clemson will get to him–Miami allowed 6 sacks against Central Florida last week and Clemson brings an effectively pressuring defense into Land Shark. On another front, QBs against Clemson have been most effective when they are used in some sort of option attack to keep the Tigers’ D off balance. I don’t think Whipple will risk it with Harris which makes this game all the more interesting. I really want to pull the trigger on the upset but…
Pick: Canes 20 Tigers 17
- Wake Forest Demon Deacons @ Navy Midshipmen / CBS College Sports / 3:30 ET
The Lead: The Deacs come off from being destroyed by Clemson to go on the road to a team that beat them in Grobe Stadium last season.
Watch 4: Navy to Take Advantage of Reeling Deacs
Navy sports the 5th ranked rushing offense in the nation and this is after Clemson ran for 195 yards and 2 TDs on the ground.
Pick: Midshipmen 27 Deacs 20
ATS Section
- FSU and under 1.5 vs. North Carolina
Take to Bank %: 70%.
I’ve not been on the UNC bandwagon all season and FSU has shown some flashes of brilliance on the road this season.
- Duke and over 5 vs. Maryland
Take to Bank %: 85%.
All aboard the Duke bandwagon!
- Georgia Tech and over 5 vs. Virginia
Take to Bank %: 65%.
I’m not as confident as some with this line–Georgia Tech/VA is just a weird series and the history tells you to go the other way.
- Clemson and under 5 vs. Miami
Take to Bank %: 45%
I wouldn’t mortage the house on it–still a lot of unknowns involved, but I like Clemson to keep it close.
Boston College and under 8 vs. Notre Dame
Take to Bank %: 75%.
I like the Eagles to keep it within a TD if they do indeed lose. Notre Dame is simply not good enough to blow BC out.
*Wake/Navy is off the board with the service I use for the lines so for consistency’s sake I’ll leave it off too(but I would take Navy).
There’s my picks for the week…taking a few upsets…a few closer-than-the-experts-think”s”…what do you think?
