The Tigers are looking to avoid this Saturday night.
Welcome to the Thursday ACC Pick’Em! I’ve got picks with/without spreads and with/without real insight.
ACC Pick’em
So far our picks by team have gone like…
Team Record Picking Them
On It
Georgia Tech 8-1
North Carolina 6-2
Boston College 7-2
Clemson 6-2
NC State 6-2
Wake Forest 6-3
Sorta There
Virginia Tech 5-3
Miami 5-3
Duke 5-3
Florida State 5-3
50%
Maryland 4-4
Virginia 4-4
And here’s the picks…
- 11/05/09 Virginia Tech Hokies @ East Carolina Pirates / 4LN / 7:30 p.m. ET
The Lead: The Hokies walk into a dangerous game in Greenville NC coming off two straight losses.
Watch 4: A Hokies’ Team to Struggle to Victory
Count me among those who do not get why the spread is so large in VT’s favor, but I think they find a way to pull it out.
Pick: Hokies 24 Pirates 20
- 11/07/09 Virginia Cavaliers @ Miami Hurricanes / Raycom / 12:00 p.m. ET
The Lead: Miami returns to the site of their undoing in the Coastal with some disgruntled ‘Hoos on the way.
Watch 4: Miami to Control Game on Ground
Miami has developed a budding star in Damien Berry at RB and the other guys aren’t too shabby either.
Pick: Canes 31 ‘Hoos 17
- Maryland Terrapins @ NC State Wolfpack / 4LN360.com / 1:30 p.m. ET
The Lead: The Wolfpack had a good showing offensively on the road in Tallahassee last week and return home to decide who indeed sucks the most in the Atlantic.
Watch 4: Pack Offense to Overpower Terps
If there’s only one thing they can do(which is true), NC State can play offense while Maryland is on/off in that area. The best offensive performance wins here and it should be the Wolfpack.
Pick: Pack 34 Terps 24
- Wake Forest Demon Deacons @ Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets / ABC-4LN2-Gameplan / 3:30 p.m. ET
The Lead: Georgia Tech try to keep up their momentum while the Deacs are looking to play spoiler on the road in the ATL.
Watch 4: The Jackets to Roll
This is a case of an overmatched opponent right here as a less octane version of this team already beat the Deacs without even throwing a pass–the Jackets have Thomas too–not good Deacs, not good.
Pick: Jackets 42 Deacs 20
- Duke Blue Devils @ North Carolina Tar Heels / 4LNU / 3:30 p.m. ET
The Lead: Duke-UNC is one of the best ACC matchups of the day–no joke, seriously, yeah, it’s true, Duke can get one win away from a bowl while UNC can do the same.
Watch 4: For History to Catch Up with the Blue Devils
I want to pick Duke here, but the Blue Devils winning back-to-back-to-back ACC games is almost unconscionable–UNC does just enough.
Pick: Heels 24 Devils 21
- Florida State Seminoles @ Clemson Tigers /4LN / 7:45 ET
The Lead: C.J. Spiller. FSU Defense. Fireworks-a-plenty.
Watch 4: Clemson Passing Game to Keep FSU Off-Balance
It wasn’t the rushing game, believe-or-not even with Spiller, that won the Miami game–it was Kyle Parker making good throws and moving the chains. If Parker is patient, Clemson will pick apart the ‘Noles.
Watch 4 Pt. 2: C.J. Spiller with the hype
Clemson has not performed well at all with all the hype before and all the talk locally is about the Heisman race–if Spiller is not focused(which I cannot believe he could not be after all he has gone through in 4 years in Clemson)–the Tigers could struggle but probably still win.
Pick: Tigers 34 ‘Noles 24
ATS Section
ATS Record: 31-23
Hey, we’re above .500 so here we go…
- East Carolina and under 13 vs. VT
Take to Bank %: 71%
East Carolina, at home, on a Thursday, spells possibly straight up upset–atleast within 13.
- NC State and over 6.5 vs. Maryland
Take to Bank %: 75%
NC State is the much-little-bit-better-team.
- GT and over 15 vs. Wake Forest
Take to Bank %: 75%
GT offense is en fuego while Wake sucks.
- Duke and under 10 vs. North Carolina
Take to Bank %: 70%
I’m confident this week and especially in Duke keeping it within ten–UNC does not have the offense to pull away.
- Miami and over 14 vs. Virginia
Take to Bank %: 65%
Virginia could keep it close, but as I write this I’m watching J12 live and therefore I’m picking the Canes.
- Clemson and over 8.5 vs. FSU
Take to Bank %: 55%
I tend to think it more a double digit when than I don’t, but who knows–Clemson has little track record of putting 4 straight great games together–FSU doesn’t either.
There’s the picks…thanks for reading and offer your thoughts below.
