Go non-team specific!
ACC Roundtable is back and we are picking the ACC Champion, making changes to all the other teams, and trading players. Block-C is hosting the festivities so check ‘em out!
1) Let’s just say, not trying to jinx anything here, but let’s just
say the Tigers make the ACC Championship game versus Georgia Tech. Who
wins, and why?
Right now, I like Clemson because they are on a roll and have a different mentality from previous seasons…because of those seasons. Clemson is that diamond that COACH COLEY TaLKS aBoutT as they have finally taken their past experiences and built upon them to be a winner. Clemson will have to win in a shootout with Georgia Tech and they are well-equipped to do so.
2) Has the ACC taken the form that you thought it would at the
beginning of the season? If not, what didn’t you see coming?
Disappointments? Pleasant surprises?
Can anyone really answer this “yes”? No, it has not to say the least–Clemson and Georgia Tech’s respective runs surprised me while FSU and NC State’s free-falls at points this season did so in the bad way. I think what has disappointed me most is what developed in season, but didn’t pan out. Miami and Duke’s great starts made those programs look a lot better than they actually were and the late season collapses were disappointing. Clemson actually delivering down the stretch was a pleasant surprise along with how well a nice guy like Spiller has taken off in his senior year.
3) If your team is not in contention for the ACCCG, what are the
necessary changes your program has to make to get your team into the
game next year? If there’s still a shot, what do you guys need to have
happen in order to find yourself in Tampa? Non-team specific writers,
pick your flavor of the week and go with it.
Let’s run through the bottom 3 teams: Maryland and Virginia-change of regime with the ‘Hoos hiring Richmond’s HC and the Terps going after Temple’s HC. NC State needs to overhaul the defense and challenge Wilson to come up bigger in those crucial games. There is no team that cannot overhaul and be a competitor in a year in the ACC besides Duke who needs more work–if these schools can attract a better coach or change it up scheme-wise then they have a shot next season.
4) If you could point to one player as the brightest spot on your
team, who would that person be? Extrapolate a little for us please.
The brightest spot in the ACC is C.J. Spiller, but a strong second is GT’s Josh Nesbitt. He has been masterful in running Johnson’s scheme and has become an absolutely vital part of the offense with his name being called more often and it translating to TDs. He has overcome some throwing issues earlier this season and has chucked the ball around a lot better this season.
5) Swap one player on your team for a player from your hated rival.
Who you got and why?
So, the ACC’s rival is the SEC or CAA? From the SEC, I would love to have Bama’s Rolando McClain engineering one of my defenses. As for the CAA, whoever is James Madison or Richmond’s best player.
